Shock Top Raspberry Wheat

20110322:
An error was drinking this beer from the bottle and not from a glass. Probably missed out on all the aromas and such. Oh well. I recall not liking the taste, but I don't have any record of my thoughts.

I found the record of my thoughts.* It was hiding as a draft text message. I wrote:
"Raspberry Shock Top smelled good. Tastes alright. Actually weird tasting. Verging on bad. At least bad aftertaste. Apricot Sea Dog is much better."

I wrote: "I can smell the raspberry as I pour. I rolled the bottle, but I didn't produce a nice thick collar of foam. First sip was alright. But the second sip was terrible." 2:20 AM
I wrote: "Somehow I'm able to keep sipping the beer but find it disgusting. Yeah... The aromas are nice, but the taste isn't. Maybe the aftertaste is okay. Overall avoid this beer." 2:31 AM
Perhaps the taste doesn't linger long, making short sips of the beer acceptable.

I poured this much down the drain.

Four weeks later and I don't pass up the chance of having a second go at this beer. I don't have any record of thoughts, but I assume they would be consistent with 20110316. There's also the small possibility that the above comment was made on 20110413 and I accidently attributed it to 20110316. After adding the comment to the blog, I would have deleted the note or text on my phone. In the end, it doesn't really matter when I made the comment.

Blue Moon Belgian White

20110312:
I had this beer at PJ's Pub. I also had a Pilsner Urquell, also from the tap, but I neither took a picture nor wrote any comments on it. I sort of recall the Urquell being hoppy, but I can't be certain.

I might have wrote delicious on 20110312, but I'm having doubts about my opinion on Blue Moon. See Yuengling 20110622.

[20110622]

I find it strange I only have one entry for Blue Moon Belgian White. I've certainly had it on several occasions. It's possible all those occasions were prior to the start of my blog. How mysterious.

I had a Blue Moon today (straight from the bottle) and it did a great job of washing down all the oil from the french fries I got from Kooper's Chowhound Burger Wagon. The citrus taste in this situation was perfect.

[20130203]

20160221:
It's been a long time since I've had a Blue Moon. In particular, I'd forgotten the orange and wheat flavor. In fact, the citrus taste was alarming, especially considering I normally drink porters, stouts, and Belgian beers which have a strong flavor profile, but lack any citrus notes. 2:24PM PT

20160307:
Today I had a bottle of Blue Moon poured into a glass with an orange slice garnish. It was refreshing and delicious. For whatever reason, it tasted better than the last time I had it (20160221).

(20160221)

While I would have liked to try either Singha or Chang, the restaurant was out of both and ultimately the Blue Moon seemed to compliment the pork pad see ew well.

20180328:
I haven't had this beer in a long time. It had a light flavor which was not explicitly citrus. 7:39 PM PT

BLUE MOON BELGIAN WHITE
BELGIAN-STYLE WHEAT ALE

~History~
THE RIGHT BLEND OF INGREDIENTS AND IMAGINATION
Blue Moon® Belgian White* was our first year-round release back in 1995.

It started with our brewmaster, Keith Villa, wanting to craft a beer inspired by the flavorful Belgian Wits he enjoyed while studying brewing in Belgium. He brewed his interpretation using Valencia orange peel versus the traditional tart Curaçao orange peel, for a subtle sweetness, and added a touch of coriander to provide balance. Then he added oats and wheat to create a smooth, creamy finish that’s inviting to the palate. As a final touch, he garnished the beer with an orange slice to heighten the citrus aroma and taste. Its natural unfiltered appearance adds to the depth of flavors in Belgian White*.

Available in 12-oz. bottles, 6-pack, 12-pack, 12-oz. can, 16-oz. can, Draft

INGREDIENTS AND PROFILE
Malts: Pale, White Wheat, Oats
Hops: Blend of Imported and Domestic
Our Twist: Valencia Orange Peel , Coriander
IBUs: 9
Original Gravity: 13º Plato
ABV: 5.4%

GLASSWARE Pour our Belgian White* into our signature Blue Moon® glass to highlight the depth of the beer. This glass opens wide at the top to make room for the aromatic citrus notes. Cap with a creamy, white head and garnish with an orange slice.

APPEARANCE Will appear cloudy because it’s unfiltered for more depth of flavor.

AROMA You’ll notice a zesty orange fruitiness with a light spicy wheat aroma.

TASTE The flavor starts crisp and tangy and ends with a coriander and orange spiciness. The Valencia orange peel gives a subtle sweetness to the beer.

MOUTHFEEL The oats give the beer a nice creamy body, so it’s not too thin.

FINISH Our Belgian White* has a slow finish of coriander and orange spiciness.

~Food Pairing~
The Valencia orange peel and coriander in Blue Moon Belgian White pairs well with seafood such as grilled shrimp, Asian dishes like pad thai, and marinated chicken dishes.

Website Information:

Aprihop is our fruit beer for hopheads!

It is an American IPA brewed with Pilsner and Crystal malts massively hopped in in the continuous fashion. The flavor is complemented by the addition of Apricots.

After fermentation the beer is dry hopped with irresponsible amounts of Amarillo hops. The beer is hoppy in the aroma with the apricots playing a supporting complimentary role.

The flavor is rich with late hop flavors and its bitterness is tempered by just the right amount of malt sweetness and fruity undertones from the apricots.

This is one of our most popular seasonal beers and we've been brewing it each spring for quite a while now. We release the beer each March and you should find it on the shelves through May.

In conjunction with the 2011 release of Aprihop - we're excited to share the first of our 2011 limited edition Seasonal screenprints from artist Dave Plunkert. They go on sale 3/1/11 and will be available until they are gone!

Original Release Date: 03/2004
Food Pairing Recommendations: Salads, swordfish, Mexican dishes, barbeque, hummus
Glassware Recommendation: Pint
Tasting Notes: Fruity, citrusy, cedar, thirst-quenching

Shock Top Belgian White

20110310:
Got it on tap at Ledo Pizza. I think I might have had Shock Top at a restaurant before, or perhaps had a taste of someone else's Shock Top. In any case, I recall enjoying it. Though, for some reason, like the Shock Top Raspberry Wheat, I don't have any recorded thoughts on it.

[20110602]

20120831:
The Shock Top at Ledo Pizza was a delicious ale and appropriate for the summer. Of course, Shock Top is a beer which is enjoyable year-round. It has an orange sort of flavor. It was a very satisfying drink, considering I had just biked several miles. Note that I was thirsty, despite having exhausted the whole two liters of water contained in my CamelBak during the ride.

Yuengling Traditional Lager

= The taste is okay. Neither bitter nor fizzy. Maybe my mouth was dry from working out. I thought I liked Yuengling as a common beer you get at a bar, but maybe I like Blue Moon better.

[20110616]

My friend sent me a text saying "For the record, I prefer Yuengling to Blue Moon." At first I thought our opinions differed, but from my Leinenkugel's Sunset Wheat post, I made it clear to myself that I also prefer Yuengling to Blue Moon Belgian White.

I wrote: "Light smell. Yuengling Traditional Lager. 12. Not bitter. Light, but good. Better than Bud for sure."

This beer was from Maxie's Pizza Bar & Grille. My friend and I were gonna get it on tap, but the bar ran out. The Yuengling came after I had a Heavy Seas Loose Cannon and a mixed drink, so that might have affected the taste.

20110206:
Sinan and I watched the Superbowl game at Hopkins Deli. We had food and a six-pack of Yuengling. As of 20110420, I don't remember how many bottles I had; I probably had two.

[20110420]

20110308:
Two cups, each from a different pitcher of Yuengling at PJ's Pub.

I wrote "Yuengling. Two cups. There's somewhat of a bad aftertaste."

Don't take that comment negatively, because I definitely enjoy Yuengling. One possibility is that beer might taste differently from the tap than out of the bottle. Another is the food I ordered might not have been compatible with the beer.
