Quady Deviation

20110730:
I was fortunate enough to get a taste of this wine ($10).

I wrote the following: "I don't know how to describe the smell of this dessert wine (Quady Deviation)... It possibly smells like a sorbet. Wow, it tastes great! It tastes like the Kasteel Rouge only fruitier, and with no carbonation. Amazing." 3:37 PM PT

Quady Deviation

Website Information
Deviation wine, incorporating new ingredients from the plant kingdom, delivers higher levels of sensory pleasure than can be done with grapes alone. Its name refers not only to a deviation from winemaking practice but also to the history of specialty winemaking at Quady and as homage to change.

Mysteriously attractive aromatics, sweet but with a surprisingly dry finish, and ethno botanical significance (of its non grape botanicals) make Deviation a wine for romance. Living up to its name, it is different in composition, in sensory impact, and in its power to induce emotion and feeling from other wines.

Quady has recently introduced a new sort of after dinner wine. Deviation, (refers to deviating from normal winemaking practice) consists of Orange Muscat laced with aromatic rose scented geranium and with damiana, (an herb with reputed aphrodisiac properties). This love potion is seductively perfumed and would make a good choice for a romantic evening.

Adios Motherfucker (AMF)

20100630:
I wrote the following: "I don't like it because of the blue curacao."

[20180704][Part of Mixed Drinks at Dave & Buster's]

20110730:
The thing about mixed drinks is I have a desire to know what goes into them. I told the waiter I'd get the drink if the bartender would write down what goes into it.

(20110730)

This is the recipe:
1 oz Blue Ice Vodka
1 oz New Amsterdam Gin
1 oz Margaritaville White Spiced Rum
1 oz Blue Curaçao
2 oz Sweet & Sour
splash of 7up

(20110730)

Many recipes on the net have tequila in addition to the vodka, gin, rum, and Curaçao, but only a 1/2 oz of each. The above might not be a standard AMF, but since I've never had an AMF before, I have no complaints.

I wrote the following: "The Adios is really good. Like Ryan, I finished the drink all at once, but I took longer because I sipped mine through the two red straws. Wow, as of writing this, I feel it. Lol, the waiter was going to take away the diluted bottom." 3:13 PM PT.

I must have said, "Wait, I'm going to drink that." Hahaha. It was good.

(20110730)

[20110818]

Today I was putting together posts for some old notes and learned that I actually encountered the AMF a whole year before I thought I encountered it for the first time! With that being said, my notes suggest that it wasn't my drink, and so I'd be less likely to remember the encounter.

Of course, one of the main reasons I keep a blog is because I know I can't remember everything. And time and time again, I experience first-hand forgetting to have drunk certain beers or watched certain movies after a good amount of time has passed (and a year most certainly qualifies as a long span of time).

(20100630 9:45 PM)

However, sometimes the experience is milder. For example, I may remember that I saw a film, but I would hardly remember the main plot.

Kasteel Rouge (Castle Red)

20110730:
"Cherry smells great! Oh wow, tastes great! Bubbly fruity cherry greatness." "Burping this drink is great..." 2:56 pm. Haha.

The waiter pours the beer into the chilled glass.
I definitely enjoyed this beer.

How did I go about deciding to get it? That's easy, I went from the bottom of the menu and worked my way up. I've definitely had North Coast Brother Thelonious, I've probably had Delirium Tremens, and I've definitely had North Coast Rasputin (twice, once at Yves' and once at Yard House).

Close-up.

Note: I stumbled on a webpage selling a 750 mL bottle of this beer for $8. That's a great buy compared to $11.50 for the 330 mL bottle at Yves'.

Anchor Steam Beer

We decided to go to California Fish Grill for food after going to watch Captain America: The First Avenger (2011).

I wrote: "Anchor Steam 12 fl oz. Regular beer smell. Tastes kind of creamy. Slight bitter aftertaste. That must mean its quite bitter. Bubbly." 7:02 pm

*The menu says it's the "Anchor Steam Amber," but gives the official description for Anchor Steam Beer: "owes its deep amber color, thick, creamy head, and rich, distinctive flavor to a historic brewing process like none other." This description normally starts "Anchor Steam Beer..." but on the menu at Beer 39, it starts "Anchor Brewing Beer, first brewed in 1896, ...". It should also be noted that the beer is listed with 6.1% ABV and 35 IBU.

ANCHOR STEAM® BEER

Bottle and Cap (20110724)

Deep amber color. Distinctive flavor. Rich history.

Anchor Steam® Beer owes its deep amber color, thick, creamy head, and rich, distinctive flavor to a historic brewing process like none other.

It is a process that combines deep respect for craft brewing tradition with many decades of evolution to arrive at a unique approach: a blend of pale and caramel malts, fermentation with lager yeast at warmer ale temperatures in shallow open-air fermenters, and gentle carbonation in our cellars through an all-natural process called kräusening.

Anchor Steam® Beer derives its unusual name from the 19th century when “steam” was a nickname for beer brewed on the West Coast of America under primitive conditions and without ice. While the origin of the name remains shrouded in mystery, it likely relates to the original practice of fermenting the beer on San Francisco’s rooftops in a cool climate. In lieu of ice, the foggy night air naturally cooled the fermenting beer, creating steam off the warm open pans. Once a nickname for any Californian or West Coast beer brewed under these conditions, today the name “steam” is a trademark of Anchor Brewing and applies only to the singular process and taste of our flagship brand - San Francisco’s original Anchor Steam® Beer. The classic of American brewing tradition since 1896.

Meaning of "humor my dad":
I'm more on the side of trying different beers. And I've had both Corona Extra and Heineken before. But if he's going to offer me a beer, I will lean towards accepting it. I will lean towards accepting it for the sake of sharing a beer with my dad, because we never did share many beers in the past. Otherwise, I feel like having a Bud, Heineken, or Corona is mainly drinking a bunch of empty calories. That is another reason I stick to trying different beers. On the bright side, apparently I didn't already make a post on Corona Extra.

In any case, given the opportunity to have the Kilkenny here at CVP (Charles Village Pub), I decided to order the Kilkenny.

I wrote: "Kilkenny on draft. Exceedingly carbonated feel. Creamier after letting the carbonation settle down." 6:50 PM

Jeremiah Weed Lightning Lemonade and Arizona Iced Tea

This combination of beverages can be interpreted as a John Daly (i.e., alcoholic Arnold Palmer), or at the least a close variation of it.

[20180624]

20110712:
I mixed half a glass of Jeremiah Weed Lightning Lemonade with half a glass of Arizona Iced Tea with Lemon Flavor. I used half the can for me, and half the can for my friend, I think. While I doubt anybody reading this blog post would quibble over such details, I do prefer to be as accurate as I can be. For that matter, I thank anybody that reads my posts, because that's a step above and beyond just looking at the pictures, and that alone makes me happy inside.

Yesterday, I was trying to figure out the reason I drank this mixed drink. I knew I had it after having my sister's sangria, but couldn't pinpoint any other details. I woke up and had a moment of clarity. The events sort of passed through my mind, and I thought, Harry Potter! Sure enough, I watched Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005) followed by Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007). According to various timestamps, I had the sangria during Goblet of Fire and this drink during Order of the Phoenix. I also deduced that I eventually had the entire can of Jeremiah Weed.

I used half the can of Jeremiah Weed Lightning Lemonade for me, and half for my friend. With the Iced Tea, I can hardly taste the alcohol. And having half a can, I'll have hardly consumed any.

Sangria

20110712:
The last time my sister made sangria, one of my friends loved it. The plan today was for my sister to make another batch for her. Unfortunately, she was busy packing her stuff to go back to school, and left the next day so she couldn't have any. My sister, another friend of mine, and I were left to enjoy some of it ourselves. No worries, there will be a next time!

My sister and I bought two different types of wine, a bottle of sangria and a bottle of something else. I believe my sister decided to use the bottle of something else for drinking. I know she added strawberries and blueberries, but I don't remember what else.

Jeremiah Weed Lightning Lemonade

20110707:
12 fl. oz. can.

Slight alcohol taste at first, but the finish is a lemonade flavor. Then after several sips, the alcohol taste settles away. Steph mentioned using tea to make a good Arnold Palmer. But I'm under the impression there's already a tea taste to it. Of course that's probably just the alcohol flavor that I'm mistaking for tea. As far as I can tell, there is little to no carbonation.

Hmm... the alcohol taste comes and goes.

It would be reasonable if the Lightning Lemonade uses Jeremiah Weed (bourbon whiskey) as one of the ingredients. One recipe I found online for a Lightning Lemonade calls for 1 oz Smirnoff® Lemon Twist vodka, 1 oz triple sec, 1 oz sweet and sour mix, and 4 - 6 oz Minute Maid® lemonade. The recipe says to "[t]ake a glass and fill it with ice and 3/4 lemonade. Then pour in the three shots and stir. Garnish with a lemon if desired."

In conclusion, I'd say there might be better drinks out there, but Jeremiah Weed Lightning Lemonade does alright.

I decided on trying his Ballast Point Wahoo Wheat Beer, especially since it was light and that way we could try either the Jeremiah Weed Lightning Lemonade or Murphy's Stout. I split the bottle into three glasses. I swirled the bottom and divided that up as best as possible.

I wrote: "Smells like Blue Moon. Tastes like Blue Moon. In general, I like it more than Blue Moon with or without the orange. Not that citrusy, but the amount is alright for me."

It seems I also wrote in a notepad file, "Tastes like a better Blue Moon. Yeah... not bitter. Totally drinkable." I'm not absolutely sure the comment is for this beer, but I'm pretty sure, because it precedes the words "Jeremiah Weed Lightning Lemonade 12 fl. oz. 5.8% ABV."
