Il Conte D'Alba Stella Rosa Rosso

20111224:
My sister got a bottle of this and my family and I drank it on Christmas Eve at dinner. I recall it being quite carbonated like a champagne.

[20120120]

20111231:
Soon after Christmas Eve, my dad bought some bottles at Costco and either my mom or dad insisted my friends and I open a bottle on New Years Eve. We drank it while playing Power Grid, several hours before midnight. I was under the impression that everybody who had the wine enjoyed it to some extent. In the end, I suppose it's a wine best enjoyed by those newer to wine, because it's sweet and sparkling.

There might be an unfair advantage as I don't recall cleansing my palate and thus the chocolate flavor of the Deschutes might have been diminished by that of the Ballast Point.

At the moment, reviewers, overall, like the Deschutes Black Butte Porter just a bit more than the Ballast Point Black Marlin Porter.

Boasting a ruby hue and an exquisite floral aroma, Red Nectar is a robust yet elegant brew with distinctive accents of toasted malt, caramel, spice and residual sweetness.

The beer that started it all... Red Nectar was considered a strange bird when it was first released in 1987. After all, where did a robust, handcrafted all-natural amber ale fit into the massive flock of American industrial lagers? Answer: it didn’t. So it blazed its own trail, helping set the pace for the craft brew revolution.

Enjoy Red Nectar for its dazzling reddish copper hue, original flavors and caramel spice accents.

2011 great american beer festival gold medal (english/special bitter)

A British Pale Ale never tasted so fresh. We challenge our good friends across the pond to match this one. Can’t be done. We’ve honored the traditions of the great British Pale brewers of Burton-on-Trent using our patented Firestone Union oak barrels. You’re left with a mild blend of vanilla and toasted oak flavor touched with an elegant hint of English noble hops. DBA is the flagship of our company and wildly popular.

REMEMBER: Watch for bottled on dates located on the necks of our beers. Our beer is not pasteurized, so it is best when stored at 44F or below, out of light and within 110 days of the bottled on date...this ensures freshness and ultimately a great Firestone Walker beer!

DBA—a.k.a. Double Barrel Ale—is the trailblazing flagship beer that started it all for us back in 1996. Partially fermented in our patented Firestone Union oak-‐barrel brewing system, DBA quickly took the Central Coast by storm and set the pace for future beers to come. Today, DBA is regarded as a California classic, and stands as an iconic tribute to traditional cask-‐fermented English ales. Pale malts create a smooth middle with ribbons of caramel, English toffee and toasted oak.

CHRISTMAS ALE

2011 Anchor Christmas Ale. New tree. New recipe. Same traditions.

Each year since 1975, Anchor Brewing creates a distinctive Christmas Ale, available from early November to mid-January. A rich, dark spiced ale, our secret recipe is different every year—as is the tree on the label—but the intent remains the same: joy and celebration of the newness of life.

Since ancient times, trees have symbolized the winter solstice when the earth, with its seasons, appears born anew. Our tree for 2011 is the bristlecone pine. Found high atop California's White Mountains, bristlecones are among the oldest living things on the planet. Some date back nearly 5,000 years, to the dawn of the ancient art of brewing.

Each year our Christmas Ale gets a unique label and a unique recipe. Although our recipes must remain a secret, many save a few bottles from year to year. Properly refrigerated, the beer remains intriguing and drinkable for years. Different nuances emerge as the flavor mellows slightly, much like the memories of great holiday seasons past. Celebrate the holidays with Anchor Christmas Ale, an Anchor tradition since 1975.

Viognier Nord Sud

Laurent produces his signature aromatic Viognier from selected blocks of mature, naturally low yielding vines at his family estate. Vines are planted in the optimum North-South orientation meaning that the grapes are exposed the gentle warmth of the morning and evening rays but protected from the burning effects of the midday sun. This ensures the conservation of a good acidity levels while the grapes mature gently and evenly. Viognier is still quite rare despite is recent resurge in popularity. It is a difficult grape to grow and gives very small yield of berries with highly concentrated aromas and flavours.

Tasting notes:
This is a deliciously perfumed opulent wine with characteristic aromas of white flowers and 'peche de vigne'. On the palate it is surprisingly elegant for a Viognier with delicate apricot and orange blossom but also some citrus character. Enjoy as an aperitif or pair with lobster or crayfish salads or spicy oriental cuisine.

Press extracts
"I am particularly taken by this, their superior Viognier bottling.... Drink it over the next few months to benefit from its entirely authentic honeysuckle and mayblossom flavours while there is also good freshness and attack there too.... To me, this does taste like baby Condrieu, unlike so many Languedoc Viogniers with their suspiciously ersatz aromas.
The Miquels have 26 ha of Viognier now, all planted within three kilometres of Cazal-Viel, and between five and 14 years old. The name of this bottling comes from the north-south orientation of the vine rows which is designed to protect the grapes from the burning effects of the midday sun. Almost a third of the juice, all free run, is barrel fermented but this is not an obviously oaked wine.
I’d serve this wine either as an exotic aperitif or with the sort of zesty salad that does duty as either a first course or a summer lunch. I could imagine it pairing a combination of pear, walnuts and blue cheese rather well."
Jancis Robinson

Characterised by combined aromas of citrus and white peaches, this Chardonnay Viognier is a delicious introduction to the unique flavours of the Viognier . The influence of the early-picked unoaked Chardonnay element is evident on the palate - lemons and clean white fruit flavours.
It finishes with rich apricot fruit

Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA

20100826:
I went to a beer tasting today and this was the third beer and drink I tasted. I only wrote the following: "Good beer."

(20130813)

[20180221 Edit]

So I recall having a conversation about Dogfish Head also having a 90 Minute IPA and 120 Minute IPA. Reading up on the 120 Minute IPA from the Dogfish Head website, I was definitely interested in getting my hands on some. Dogfish Head's Fish Finder function returned one location carrying the 120 Minute IPA 79 miles away from Baltimore, MD. The Dogfish Head 2011 Beer Releases shows that the next release for 120 Minute IPA is scheduled for April. Actually, there might be a chance a local store has some, but I doubt it.

Sitting here at Palmere's in Little Italy drinking a beer and eating some gravy fries before heading over to Havana for a night of salsa. After finishing the beer, I also had a rum and coke.

Today I had a 60 Minute IPA from the bottle. While I didn't seem to have taken any notes, I most certainly put my new camera to use and snapped a picture of the bottle in front of a defocused background. The photo has been added below.

Website Information:
Our 60 Minute IPA is continuously hopped - more than 60 hop additions over a 60 minute boil (getting a vibe yet of where the name came from?). 60 Minute is a session India Pale Ale brewed with a slew of great NorthWest hops. A powerful, but balanced East Coast I.P.A. with a lot of citrusy hop character. The session beer for hardcore beer enthusiasts!

Food Pairing Recommendations: Spicy foods, pesto, grilled salmon, soy-based dishes, pizza, vintage cheddar
Glassware Recommendation: Pint

I wrote: "Fireside Chat. Winter Spiced Ale. 7.9% ABV. 45 IBUS. 12 FL OZ. Can. Seasonal Release. 21st Amendment Brewery. Initially tasted like a porter. Chocolate. Eventually had a nutty, roasted taste. Enjoyable. Slightly bitter aftertaste on the tongue. After trying so long to appreciate smells and tastes in beer, I still can't quite pick up any of the smells and tastes that other people writing beer reviews on BeerAdvocate.com. Being told that nutmeg is a primary scent in this beer, I suppose I can detect it. Then again, I'm not entirely sure I know what nutmeg tastes like! Perhaps I'll go buy some tomorrow." 10:16 PM

Like FDR's Depression-era radio addresses, which were like a kick in the butt and a hug at the same time, our Fireside Chat is a subtle twist on the traditional seasonal brew. We begin with a rich, dark, English-style ale and then we improvise with spices until we know we have a beer worth sharing with the nation.

Fireside Chat is our early winter seasonal brew available from October through December in six pack cans and on draft. Brewed like a classic, warming Strong Ale but with a subtle blend of hand-selected spices for just the right festive flair.
