La Pinta

At 19% ABV, this tequila certainly should have fumes of alcohol, but the taste is just wonderful.

The owner of this bottle had a housewarming party today and I was fortunate enough to have some drops of this pomegranate infused tequila. There was only so much left and having tried it before, I was happy with about a spoonful of it. It's absolutely delicious. 9:37PM ET

Key Elements
La pinta is the fusion between the finest tequila and the juices of an exotic variety of the pomegranate fruit. Several people declare this variety has many aphrodisiac and healthy properties.

"La Pinta Pomegranate Infused Tequila is "Ponche de Granada," which is a very popular and traditional drink in Guadalajra, Jalisco, MX. Translated, it is Punch of Pomegranate. Similar to Limoncello for Italians, it is a drink using local and regional fruit that is readily available. The state of Jalisco has a very steady climate that is perfect for growing pomegrante. Thus, it is very common to infuse Tequila, the regional and national spirit, with its juices! Ponche de Granada is very traditional and common in Jalisco, MX. In fact, La Pinta comes from our Master Distiller's family recipe. La Pinta is delicious served chilled, on the rocks with soda or different garnishes and is super versatile in a myriad of cocktails!"

After pouring the mix into a cup, the sangria was topped with 7UP. There were two batches, each with a different wine, but both were good.

Unrelated to the wine, I was trying to recall a fact about shoes and drawing on people. Happily I wasn't kept wondering and was remind that if your shoes are on, then it's fair game to draw on you; but if your shoes are off, then you're safe.

beer bottle - Leinenkugel's Summer Shandy

Here at the Spring Fair, there really aren't many "good" beer options in the Beer Garden. Given the selection, I decided to buy enough tickets and try both the Summer Shandy and the Flying Dog Under Dog.

[20120530]

20180615:
When I received the beer, I had heard the name as "Brandywine Something Beer." The beer had a fresh citrus smell and a citrus taste. I pinned it as a lemon flavor. Eventually, I figured it was probably Leinenkugel's Summer Shandy; besides the lemon flavor, "Shandy" does sound like "Brandy." 10:03 PM CT

beer in a plastic cup - Leinenkugel's Summer Shandy
(20180615)

I was later asked if I wanted another drink and I picked a different beer, but I believe, due to a mix-up, that I ended up receiving another Summer Shandy. In my quest to determine the identity of this second beer, I went to the bartender and asked if he could tell me what it was by its appearance. He replied saying that he couldn't, but that it was probably a Summer Shandy or Blue Moon. Since it definitely didn't taste like a Blue Moon, it was more likely to be the Summer Shandy. The odd part was that it didn't quite taste like a Summer Shandy either! With that being said, it had a citrus taste. I bet it was because I was expecting to drink the beer I had chosen which would not have had a citrus flavor. 11:13 PM CT

Trash Can

20120414:
This mixed drink has the same goal as the AMF: getting you drunk quickly. Like with the AMF, I was definitely willing to try it.

I didn't remember to get the exact recipe from the bartender, but the drink is a combination of liqueurs, ice, and a can of Red Bull flipped upside-down that sits on top of the drink.

There's a possibility that you can drink casually without fear of the Red Bull endlessly flowing out into the glass. This certainly depends on the size of the glass you use and the physics involved dealing with liquids and pressure. Of course, whether or not the Red Bull will actually flow out and spill over, it's a lot more fun to drink as if it will!

From this experience, I'd suggest letting some Red Bull flow down and hit the bottom, just for a more well-rounded taste; getting an early start will just result in drinking nothing but Red Bull at the end.

Search results show that this drink is also called an Irish Trash Can, because the drink turns green upon adding the Red Bull.

The following recipe seems popular:
.5 oz Blue Curaçao
.5 oz Gin
.5 oz Light Rum
.5 oz Peach Schnapps
.5 oz Triple Sec
.5 oz Vodka
1 can Red Bull

Firefly Sweet Tea Flavored Vodka

20120414:
The Firefly brand holds a special place in my mind, because one night several years ago, possibly the night of 20091114, I had been drinking beers and taking various shots - the first of which was Firefly Mint Tea Flavored Vodka. At one point during the night, we got to a round of shots and there weren't any glasses left. Obviously the smart thing to do (sarcasm) is to take a swig from the bottle. That shot hit me hard; Firefly Mint Tea Flavored Vodka is dangerously tasty. The Sweet Tea Flavored Vodka is no exception. One can hardly taste the alcohol and one could easily drink too much.

Firefly Sweet Tea Flavored Vodka

In any case, Firefly Sweet Tea Flavored Vodka made up the first and second in the round of shots for tonight. We were served shots in little plastic cups.

The third, and last, round of shots for the night was some sort of tequila.

Original Sweet Tea

Created in a small still on Wadmalaw Island, South Carolina, Firefly became the world’s first hand-crafted sweet tea flavored vodka. Keeping true to its Southern roots, Firefly is distilled four times, infused with tea grown on a plantation five miles from the distillery and blended with real Louisiana sugar cane. It tastes just like real sweet tea, but with an even sweeter kick! Imitators try to achieve the taste of tea with artificial flavors and you will instantly know the difference with one sip. The real stuff just tastes better!

Amaretto Sour

20120413:
After drinking a cocktail called Peach Lover Malibu at Aloha Sushi & Bar, I had an Amaretto Sour.

I wrote the following: "Amaretto Sour. Little bitter in it. Tastes alright. Better as it goes on." 11:44 PM

20120907:
Done with taking shots and listening to live music at The Waterfront Hotel, my friends and I made our final stop at Bond Street Social.

I think this mixed drink was better than the last time I had it. If someone else is buying, then I'm down. It was sour. Almond. The bitterness was strange. 1:21 AM ET

(20120907)

After the Amaretto Sour, my friends and I finished the night with SoCo and Lime shots.

20121020:
Earlier this evening my friends and I went to a beer festival and for some of them, an afternoon of all-you-can-drink beer wasn't enough. As for me, I decided to tag along and drink water for a while. After enough water, I had an Amaretto Sour (8:11PM ET) and a Rum and Coke (9:39PM ET).

I had a lot to drink tonight (Mixed Drinks 20141231). Among them was the Amaretto Sour.

The first Amaretto Sour I had was sweeter and tastier than the midori sour I tasted before it. In fact, it was as sweet as a boba drink (bubble tea). 9:44PM PT

Oddly, the second Amaretto Sour I had tasted different. 10:02PM PT

Peach Lover Malibu at Aloha Sushi & Bar

20120413:
Today I got this drink at Aloha Sushi & Bar.

I wrote the following: "Peach Lover Malibu with peach syrup. Good. Liked that." 11:44 PM ET

When I first got the drink I took a sip and all I sipped was the syrup at the bottom. How embarrassing.

After the Peach Lover Malibu I had an Amaretto Sour.

Unibroue Don de Dieu

20120412:
Poured into glass.

This beer is very much a wheat beer on the nose. The smell is strong (especially of citrus). The smell gave a good expectation of what to taste. It's good. Like one of the last few beers I had, it wasn't quite my style. I could see it being enjoyed by those who love wheat beers. I can't quite pinpoint why this is true, but perhaps I'd say that the flavor is clear, and yet not excessive. I guess one would say the beer is quite balanced. I can hardly tell it's alcoholic content is 9% ABV.

[20120412]

20141221:
This Don de Dieu is refreshing.

Overall, I like it.

About the Legend
Don de Dieu (Gift of God) was the name of the ship that Samuel de Champlain sailed on his mission to “explore and discover the vast and perilous land of America” in the name of the King of France. His travels led to the founding of Quebec City in 1608 (a modification of the Algonquin word “kebec” which means “where the river narrows”). Inspired by this great adventure, Unibroue created Don de Dieu an abbey-style triple wheat ale refermented in the bottle.

Pairing
Rich, heady, and highly aromatic, Don de Dieu goes great with gourmet cuisine. Serve cold as an aperitif or at 50°F for a fabulous digestif.

Savor with goat cheese, especially buchette-style, white meats, or sausage.

Aging
Potential:
2 to 3 years.

Like good wine, Unibroue’s fine beers have flavors that develop with age. Over time they become smoother, sometimes revealing notes of honey and candied fruit and developing a more assertive and lasting flavor. This phenomenon is known as “maderization” and is similar to the aging process of dessert wines like port.

Preservatives
Oxygen is the mortal enemy of beer because oxidation creates a stale, flat flavor. The yeast added to the bottle of Unibroue products triggers natural fermentation, consuming excess oxygen and preventing the beer’s CO2 from oxidizing. This enhances the beer’s aging potential. The high alcohol content of certain Unibroue products also lends itself well to aging by acting as a natural preservative.

Cellaring
Store bottles upright in a cool dark place at a stable temperature between 46ºF and 61ºF.

Anchor Porter

20120411:
The beer has a standard porter smell. At least I think. It's been a while since I've had a porter. At least I think. It tastes good. It's relatively more carbonated than other beers. I'd say there's more of a coffee taste to it. Or perhaps a roasted flavor. At first, the aftertaste was strange. But, related to the carbonation, I burped once or twice while drinking the beer and somehow the flavors associated to the burp are more distinct than when drinking the beer. Perhaps the alcohol or bitterness clouds the taste on the way down.

I like Anchor Steam's standard beer and their 2011 Christmas Ale much better. Speaking of which, I still have some bottles of the 2011 Christmas Ale stowed away. With that being said, I did enjoy the Anchor Porter, but because I had higher expectations I thought the beer was just alright.

Paying with credit, I had to buy two bottles of Anchor Porter ($2.49 per bottle) to meet the credit minimum. Though I'm not sure I'll drink the second one. Anybody want to swap a beer with me?

As of 20120523, I had three bottles of the Christmas Ale left. I brought one with me to California and gave two to a good friend of mine who likes wine more than beer. I had given the spare Anchor Porter to my roommate.

Pour this over pancakes. Vast in character, luscious and complex, Immort Ale was born at our brewpub in 1995 and made its way into bottles in 1997.

For this beer, we use maple syrup from Red Brook Farm -- Sam's family farm in Western Massachusetts, peat-smoked barley, juniper berries and vanilla.

Immort is fermented with a blend of English and Belgian yeasts, then aged in the big oak tanks at the brewery.

The sweet and earthy flavors meld magnificently in the Immort Ale. But be warned, the ABV is 11%, so after one or two you may start feeling immortal (even though we promise you won't be).
