The Macallan 12 Years Old

20140930:
The Macallan 12 Years Old on the rocks.

This Macallan smells lighter, and has less of an apple juice scent than the Johnnie Walker Black Label.

The drink was okay upon first contact, but then the spice and burn hits.

The second sip was easier than the first. 7:15PM PT

The Macallan 12 Years Old *
*The Macallan distillery makes a 12 year old whisky aged in fine oak and a 12 year old whisky aged in fine sherry casks. I'm guessing the one I had was aged in sherry oak (based on color and taste).

Johnnie Walker Black Label

20140930:
Johnnie Walker Black on the rocks.

It smells like apple juice to me. However, it definitely doesn't taste like apple juice.

Instead, it taste really strong to me. While it gets a little lighter as the ice melts, the drink still has a spice to it.

Having tried very few whiskies, I didn't really enjoy this cup of Johnnie Walker until the end.

(20160828)

I'm quite tipsy from it. 7:03PM PT

20160827:
Today I drank some Johnnie Walker Black neat. It was smooth with a strong spice.

I poured some more and added two drops of water using an ice cube. I felt like it was easier to drink. Without the two drops of water there was simply too much spice! 5:38PM CT

[20160915 Quick Edit]

20160828, 31:
I definitely had some more the next day (20160828) and the day we left for the airport (20160831).

(20140930)

It's possible I had some on the days in between, but there's no text or photo record of such.

20140930:
Technically - as far as I know - this beer doesn't have a name. But the kegerator is called "Simple Beer Service" and hence so shall the beer it dispenses be named.

I find the beer is very carbonated, refreshing, and lacks taste. Maybe its like a good Bud? 6:49PM PT

However, while the beer itself might not be impressive, the kegerator dispensing the beer is pretty noteworthy. As explained by the sign, it sends data about the beer flow to the cloud and that information is then charted live.

AWS services used: Amazon Kinesis, Amazon S3, Amazon EC2, Amazon Elastic MapReduce and Amazon Redshift

The Simple Beer Service (SBS) is a cloud-connected kegerator developed by the AWS San Francisco office which sends data about beer flow to Amazon Kenesis. Observe data on individual pours of beer including the duration and volume of the pour in near real-time through a custom JavaScript application running on Amazon S3. The data is also stored in Amazon S3 for later processing and analysis using Amazon EC2, Amazon Elastic MapReduce, and Amazon Redshift. Visualize the SBS historical beer pour data using Tableau, an Amazon partner which supports Amazon Redshift.

Fox Barrel Pacific Pear

~I'm not a beer. I'm a cider.~

20140912:
This Fox Barrel* Pacific Pear is a pear cider. The pear taste is subtle and overall the cider is pretty good tasting. There is very little carbonation and I think the final sips were not as good as the initial ones. 4:21PM PT

*Apparently this is now Crispin Pacific Pear, but the bottle I'm drinking from still has the Fox Barrel label.

Redd's Apple Ale

20140901:
Redd's Apple Ale was a good tasting ale.* It's refreshing. While it's not as crisp as Crispin Original, it's still good. 10:44PM PT

*I originally thought it was a cider, but apparently it's an ale.
