Saint Archer Blonde Ale

20170411:
It had a light wheat taste and tasted slightly grassy. I sipped on it.

Bear Republic Red Rocket Ale

20170411:
The beer had a good amount of carbonation. It was a little dry. It was not bitter.

It mostly reminded me of a red ale, but then I suddenly wondered if I was merely being influenced by the beer's name Red Rocket Ale.

Regardless, it tasted good. 2:57PM PT

Santiam Diabolus

20170402:
After the Sixpoint C.R.E.A.M., I had time for one more beer. I was eyeing the Santium Diabolus, $3 for 4 oz ($7 for 12 oz). It was described as a Belgian-style tripel, barrel aged (Kentucky bourbon). Salem, OR. 10%.

Santiam Diabolus - nearly empty glass

Uncertain if I would like the beer, I first got a sample of it. I liked the sample, and I got the 4 oz pour.

It had a floral smell. It might have smelled like plum. It might have smelled like a red wine.

It had a cloudy orange color.

It had a bitter taste and a dry finish. The beer tasted different from the initial sample. I had supposed the beer's lingering bitterness was beginning to alter the flavor.

It had a medium amount of carbonation. Furthermore, the lingering dryness was becoming more and more apparent.

Thinking about the color, I decided it had less of an orange color and more of a yellow color.

Finishing the beer, I thought it had a flavor similar to coriander but definitely not coriander. Perhaps the beer was just hoppy. Though it was definitely not grassy.

Maybe it tasted the way a tripel should taste. 7:10PM PT

Trappist Style Tripel. Belgian candi sugar and barrel aging lend a spicy character with fruity esters and a touch of oak. Dark golden color, dry with a light-medium mouth feel. Straight from the barrels - unfiltered.

Sixpoint C.R.E.A.M.

20170402:
After the Santiam Bluegrass Stout, I tried the Sixpoint C.R.E.A.M., $4 for 10 oz ($6 for 20 oz). It's described as a cream ale with coffee. Brooklyn, NY. 7.2%.

Sixpoint C.R.E.A.M - full glass

The beer had an orange color, a strange spice smell, and maybe a slightly citrus taste.

Thinking about the taste, I concluded that it tasted like other cream ales I've had in the past. I'm not a fan of cream ales, but I gave it a try because I like beers with notes of coffee.

Ultimately, I neither liked nor disliked it.

After I drank about half of the beer, I began to pick up on the coffee flavor. It's a sour-tasting type of coffee.

I liked the beer better upon finishing it. 7:10PM PT

COFFEE BLONDE

7.2% ABV | 25 IBU | 10 SRM

You started with cream in your coffee, now have coffee in your cream ale.
We took blonde beer, then calibrated it with roasty coffee and a touch of creamy sweetness. Start and end the day with craft brew. CREAM! It’s Mad Science.

The Story. That moment... you wake up, shake up, hop outta bed, damn that floor is cold! Need something HOT to get the juices flowing. Let’s brew. Grind it, mash it, steep it, pour it over. Watch the chaos, the alkaline swirl through the roasted, acidic elixir. It doesn’t take a pH.D: Drop the Acid, Drop the Base, Drop the Mic...

Lab Notes. A bright blonde ale calibrated with roasty coffee and a touch of sweetness. Last brewed January 2017.

Santiam Bluegrass Stout

20170402:
While Ada waited in line for Voodoo Doughnut, I sought out beer at Bailey's Taproom.

Santiam Bluegrass Stout - full 4 oz

I started with Santiam Bluegrass Stout, $3 for 4 oz ($7 for 7 oz). It's described as an imperial stout with coconut, barrel-aged bourbon. Salem, OR. 10%.

I smelled alcoholic fumes. There was some carbonation. It had a sour taste.

It tasted great. Anyone who enjoys beer with a sour taste will likely enjoy it as well. I especially appreciated the lighter, sour taste, because I have not had many beers recently.

The beer had a brown color in the light. 7:10PM PT
