ZiegenBock Texas Amber

20170630:
I didn't make any instantaneous notes on this ZiegenBock Texas Amber. I eventually noted, however, that it tasted more neutral than the Revolver Blood and Honey I had earlier. In particular it was not sweet, and it was definitely not amazing. In fact, overall I found it was at most a run-of-the-mill ale. 7:41PM ET

THE BEER!

Our Texas Amber is an American-style amber lager, pouring dark but brewed to be smooth and medium bodied. A blend of U.S. and imported hops imparts a hint of bitterness to balance out the malty sweetness from darker malts, giving it a crisp yet sweet finish. 4.9% ABV.

Revolver Blood & Honey

20170630:
The beer tasted sweet. There was some bitterness, but there was also a malty aftertaste.

Apparently the beer has honey in it; how interesting. 6:11PM CT

2015 Kendall-Jackson Grand Reserve Late Harvest Riesling

20170629:
The dessert wine went well with the cobbler. It wasn't overly sweet. It was not as sweet as some of the sweetest wines I've had before. 10:21PM CT

Saint Arnold Fancy Lawnmower

20170629:
Compared to the Fire Ant Funeral I had earlier, this beer had more of a pale ale taste and less bitterness. It had no bitter aftertaste. 10:20PM CT

A true German-style Kölsch. Originally brewed in Cologne, this beer is crisp and refreshing, yet has a sweet malty body that is balanced by a complex, citrus hop character. Multiple additions of German Hallertauer hops are used to achieve this delicate flavor. We use a special Kölsch yeast, an ale yeast that ferments at lager temperatures, to yield the slightly fruity, clean flavor of this beer. Fancy Lawnmower Beer is a world class brew yet light enough to be enjoyed by Texans after strenuous activities, like mowing the lawn.

Saint Arnold Fancy Lawnmower Beer is best consumed at 35-45° Fahrenheit.

Recommended pairings: Blackened fish, salads, and grilled veggies.

Original Gravity: 1.045 (11.4° Plato)

Ingredients:
Malted Barley: True to style, this beer is brewed with just pale malted barley and a dash of malted wheat. We import the world's best pils and wheat malts to create the light yet rich malt body.
Hops: We use a single hop variety in this beer: Hallertauer Hersbrucker. Four separate additions to the brew kettle create the delicate flavor and aroma of this classic hop.

History and Trivia:
Debuted August 2000.

We developed this beer because we wanted a slightly delicate beer in our portfolio, and one with a crisper, hoppier character than the Texas Wheat. We settled on Kölsch for the style.

When it came to naming the beer, we performed our typical expensive, highly sophisticated consumer research program. We made a sheet of paper with five potential beer names on it: Select, Blonde, Kölsch, Golden and Fancy Lawnmower Beer. We then went around to any parties or bars we were at and handed out these sheets to have people rate their perception of the quality of the beer with each name on a scale of 1 to 5. If we just averaged the totals, Golden would have won. People rated Fancy Lawnmower Beer either a 1 or a 5, but all anyone wanted to talk about, no matter what they rated it, when they handed their questionnaire in was Fancy Lawnmower Beer.

This beer has a distinctive floral hop aroma. This, combined with the power of suggestion leads many people to inform us that this beer tastes like grass. No it doesn't, silly. And stop smoking so much of it.

Research has also found this beer to be perfect for tailgating at Texans game. Especially on those crisp, fall days at the beginning of the football season in August. In Houston. In a paved parking lot.

Shiner Light Blonde

20170629:
I had trouble describing this beer.* It was definitely not a pale ale like the Fire Ant Funeral I had earlier. In the end, it could only describe it as it was named: a light blonde. It tasted okay. 8:06PM CT

*I haven't had so many beers lately so it is harder to describe the ones I have.

Rogue Mocha Porter

20170623:
I had trouble detecting the smell of this beer. I supposed its alcoholic fumes overwhelmed the scent of it. It had a pitch black color, and the head dissipated quickly.

To the taste, the beer had a thin, watery texture accompanied by some carbonation, which had a bite to it on the sip but would immediately fade away. It also had a malty aftertaste.

Overall, I was hoping for a sweeter, more chocolate tasting beer.

Lagunitas Doppel Weizen

20170620:
The beer had a hoppy and flowery smell. It appeared to have a cloudy, orange color.

Lagunitas Doppel Weizen

It had a carbonated, hoppy taste and a strong grassy aftertaste; wow.

Judging from it's name "Doppel Weizen," maybe it actually had a strong wheat taste. Regardless, the aftertaste was so bitter.

When I got the beer I thought it would be a delightfully light beer; perhaps I accidentally attributed the the beer to tasting like a hefeweizen when I saw "Weizen" on the label. It's also possible that I thought the beer would have a light taste from it's brightly-colored label with white background. 8:08PM PT

This special brew was designed with the help of our Freistaat Bayern brothers who also built the brewhouse upon which we brewed it. It's a new twist on an old tradition!

ABV: 8.7 | O.G.: 1.084 | IBU: 34.20
Availability: March-April | Introduced: 2014 | Sold As: 22 oz, On Tap

In far-away 2006, in a beer hall in Philly, at the end of a long road, we share our first beer with a Friestaat Bayern Brewer enharmonically named; Wolfgang. At stake, over a Pils, was whether or not Lagunitas would purchase from him a new 80bbl brewhouse. It was a lot of money. Playing Sileus to my Brewery’s chariot, together- with the benefit of the lager- we forded the emotional-economic crevasse and commissioned the brewhouse. Unforseeable [sic] at the time would be the need for even more brewing capacity today. So, for the umpteenth time in our short history, we lurch down that increasingly familiar road towards new brewhouses, fermentation tanks, and the like. The actual installation bears a strong resemblance to a heart transplant, on an awake patient, performed on the backside of a galloping horse, or at very least in tow behind Dionysus’ trustworthy Silenus. Some is good, more is better. The good news is; It’s still us! Call us. 707.769.4495

2 Gingers Irish Whiskey

20170612:
On the rocks. It had a light color. The ice helped. Compared to The Glenrothes Sherry Cask Reserve, it was definitely less sweet. Other than that, I had no idea on how to describe the whiskey.

20170612:
I loved the smell of this whisky. I asked the server for something sweet and this is what he recommended. I had it neat. The glass was still warm (from drying) and that in turn warmed the whisky; it was nice.

The first sip tasted lovely, but the next sip was stronger than the first. I thought this might have been due to the glass/drink returning to room temperature.

Overall, I enjoyed the taste of this whisky. 7:17PM PT

There are many factors we consider in determining an expression worthy of bottling and sharing with you. Of course, we've always been proud of the fact that we have our sherry casks made to specification in Jerez, southern Spain even though it costs around five times as much as American ex-bourbon equivalents. Now, we can offer you the chance to sample, without distraction, the unique dried fruit and resinous character that underpins the sherry top notes for which these casks are famed.

Tasting Notes
Appearance: Burnished gold
Bouquet: Orange peel, fruit cake, vanilla, ginger bread, black cherries and pear drops

Finish: Lingering spiciness with orange peel notes

With a delicious creamy texture that explodes on the palate, this burnished gold single malt delivers soft, spicy and fruity flavours - ginger, orange peel and sherry oak in perfect harmony. Sheer indulgence.
