Note - Received @ 20180330 4:35 AM PT:
this boulevard sour was enjoyable. I sipped a glass of it while on my computer and didn't focus on it much. not necessarily because it was bad; just drinking casually

today this sour ale was still sour. and still delicious. I had about a glass and a quarter. still some left. the sourness has a little bitterness, equivalent to cranberry juice. so it's really easy to enjoy. I like this taste much more than wines which are sweet but have tannins.

LOVE CHILD NO. 8
WOOD-AGED SOUR ALE

Boulevard's Love Child Series of "wild" ales are barrel-aged with such boisterous cultures as Lactobacillus and Brettanomyces. These wayward offspring can prove so complex that we employ gauges on the label to convey the intensity of three key personality traits, Funk, Sour and Fruit, presenting a picture of the ale at the time it was released. It will change as it ages, but don't we all? A blend of wood-aged sour beer, Love Child No. 8 is composed of multiple vintages of a Flanders-style sour red ale and a sour Belgian-style golden. This release features soft lactic acidity punctuated with slight acetic notes and a tart, fruity flavor remiscent of sour cherries and green strawberries.

HEFEWEIZEN

A CLASSIC BAVARIAN STYLE
Like the fog lingering over the bay, our take on the classic wheat beer is unfiltered for a hazy appearance and fluffy mouthfeel. It’s a smooth, easy drinker, with notes of fresh banana and clove spice that finishes with a soft, mellow sweetness. Just say: “hay-fuh-vite-sun!”

Yeast: Bavarian Hefeweizen Ale Yeast
Malt: Two Row, White Wheat

THE HEFE STORY
When the brewers set out to make Hefe, they wanted this classic Bavarian style wheat beer to be refreshing, have a touch of citrus, use high quality malted wheat, and have spicy phenolic and fruity ester aromas derived from a German yeast strain. We brought in a true Hefeweizen yeast for our Hefe, but kept the fermentation temperatures slightly lower than those used in Bavaria. As a result, our Hefe is more in line with the tastes of West Coast drinkers, with its refreshing and relatively dry finish, and a subtle accent of the traditional flavors of banana and clove.

Website Information:
ANCHOR COFFEE PORTER™

A SF Collaboration brew made with Four Barrel's unique flash-chilled coffee.

Our historic, art deco building on San Francisco's Potrero Hill was a coffee roastery before it was our brewery. We've joked for years that it takes a lot of coffee to make beer. Now, in collaboration with local roaster Four Barrel Coffee, we are doing just that-- literally.

Back of Label

We start in the brewhouse with our radically traditional recipe for Anchor Porter, which we've been brewing since 1972. We end up in the cellar, where we add Four Barrel Flash-Chilled Coffee-- developed with Anchor especially for this beer-- during secondary fermentation. The coffee used is brewed hot, then flash-chilled within 10 seconds. This proprietary method ensures the vital aromatics and key acids of a great cup of coffee are captured and preserved.

The result is a coffee porter of immense richness, intensity, boldness, and smoothness, with deep aromas and mouthfeel of fresh-roasted coffee melded with dark-roasted maltiness. Anchor Coffee Porter is a rich, smooth Porter with a roasty malt backbone, a bold coffee aroma and complex layers of chocolate, nuts and spices.

Pedro Point Hyggeweizen

20180304:
Note #1 - Received @ 1:19 PM PT:
Drake's Cherryland kicked and was replaced by 21st Amendment Strawberry Mountain Jam. A 1.5 oz sample didn't really reveal any strawberry; it had a strange blond ale sort of taste. So then I sampled the Half Moon Bay Saison Sandwich* and it was very bready. Unsatisfied, I sampled Pedro Point Hyggeweizen. I thought, because the name was similar to hefeweizen, that it would be yellow in color. Instead, it was black in color. In any case, I enjoyed the sample and so I got a pint of it. It had a light smell. It's light bodied, with some carbonation and a taste which was not as strong as the sample. Perhaps the sample had more head and contrasted with the Saison Sandwich.

Almost Gone

After eating, I returned to this beer. It's light, like Guinness. Overall, I give it 3.5 out of 5 stars. 1:58 PM PT.

*Apparently I already had this beer recently.
