Rochefort Trappistes 6

20180528:
Today I opened an 11.2 oz bottle and poured some of the beer into a small goblet. It had a pungent smell. There was a carbonated feeling on the tongue and a medium-bodied mouthfeel. The taste was of medium strength.* Finally, there was a subtle bitterness when the liquid hits the tongue, but there was no lingering aftertaste. 9:09 PM PT

Trappistes Rochefort 6  - Goblet, Bottle Cap, and Beer Bottle (front)

Three hours later, I drank the second half of what I poured and it was warmer, stronger, and tastier. It was not overpowering compared to other Belgian strong ales I've had when they are warm.

Pouring the rest of the beer, it had a refreshed carbonated test.

*I assume this note refers to a combination of the alcoholic strength and flavor.

Rochefort Trappist "6" or Red Cap

The History of "6"
Rochefort Trappist 6 is named after its original gravity measured in "Belgian degrees" - a brewing scale no longer used today. It was first sold to the public in 1953.

Trappistes Rochefort 6 - Beer Bottle (front)

Taste
Reddish-brown color with amber-gold highlights; soft body leads to earthy flavors and an herbal character. Refined, soft spiciness in the bouquet finishes with a bit caramel. Bottle-conditioned for soft natural carbonation.

Serving Suggestion
Cream soups and rich dishes; can support vinaigrette dressing. Wonderful to clear the palate when served with concentrated, creamy foods. Serve in traditional Rochefort stemmed goblet.

T.W. Pitchers' Radler

20180527:
I love the citrus taste of this beer.

Josh had a taste and commented "It's one of the best beers I've ever had." 2:24 PM PT

TW Pitchers' Radler - full pint

After having a sip of Josh's choice, Anchor Steam Beer, I returned to the Radler and noted the following: "Yeah, this beer is great. I detect citrus notes and it's not bitter. It's sweet, but just enough."

Soon after I wrote the following: "I can taste the grapefruit as part of the aftertaste, the lingering flavor that sits in my mouth. It's great." 2:39 PM PT

Menu Description:

LAGER WITH GRAPEFRUIT & BLOOD ORANGE

YEAR-ROUND // 5.1% ABV // 6-PACK + DRAFT

According to legend, a Bavarian barman needed to stretch his beer supply one afternoon and decided to add a barrel of citrus juice to his brew. Inspired by this ingenuity, we created TW Pitchers' Radler, a refreshingly crisp blend of lager and grapefruit juice with a hint of blood orange for good measure. Wunderbar!

Golden State Mighty Hops

2018:
I had a can of this Golden State Mighty Hops while at Foreign Cinema

Golden State Mighty Hops

The cider was slightly different from the typical cider. but did not clearly distinguish itself from the normal variation in taste of a cider.

St. Peter's Cream Stout

20180515:
"This stout has a thin texture. It tastes a little creamy on the finish, but otherwise it runs too watery for me.

After reading the beer's description, I try and pick up on the chocolate taste. While unable to do so, I suppose there is a nutty flavor.

Finally, the beer has a small bite when it hits the tongue, but it's definitely not carbonated." 9:11 PM PT

Hermitage Cherry Almonds

20180514:
After having a meal with jalapenos, I decided to drink this sour ale.

As far as I can remember, this beer is the most sour beer I've ever had. 10:01 PM PT

Eventually I transferred the beer to a cup. At that point, the beer's sourness had faded and I began to perceive a tart cherry flavor. It was interesting, because the sour taste would come and go. 10:05 PM PT

Overall, the beer was too sour for me; there were moments I liked the taste of the beer and moments I did not. 20180515 3:32 AM PT

Stone Enjoy By IPA

20180513:
Today I drink the Stone Enjoy By 04.20.18 IPA.

This beer had a strong hoppy smell. There was some head, was yellow in color, and appeared transparent.

I was surprised at how hoppy the beer tasted.

The beer was initially easy to consume, but then suddenly packed a punch with an absolutely bitter aftertaste.

While the beer generally tasted too strong, it was bearable at times. 4:03 AM PT

Personally I didn't completely enjoy this beer. But if you enjoy really hoppy beers, then I would recommend you give Stone Enjoy By IPA a try.

MORE INFORMATION
We took the opportunity with this beer to use several interesting techniques we’ve learned during our many years of brewing great double IPAs. The result is an intense, dry beer with very little malt sweetness, but with plenty of malt flavor to provide a background to the enormous...or shall I say "ginormous" hop character. Hopping, as might be expected, was over the top. First, the brew was mash-hopped with Ahtanum, one of our favorite hop varieties, after which we kettle-hopped with a very small dose of Super Galena hop extract for bittering. Then, using a technique known in homebrew circles as “hop bursting,” we loaded up very heavily on the flavor hops at the end of the boil and in the whirlpool. Simcoe, Delta, Target and Amarillo were used in the late kettle hop. Simcoe, Amarillo, Calypso and Cascade were used for the whirlpool hop. As you can clearly tell, this beer was super hoppy even before we dry-hopped it, but then we went for it...dry-hopping with primarily Southern Hemisphere hops, including Galaxy, Nelson Sauvin, Motueka and Helga. Drink extra-super-tasty Stone Enjoy By IPA well before its shelf life to maximize the pungent glory that this beautiful, intense hop profile provides.

Buffalo Bill's Blood Orange Imperial Ale

20180509:
"This beer has a great smell. I'm assuming it's what a blood orange smells like. The taste is like a darker-tasting orange soda. The beer absolutely smells like Fruit Loops.* Oh, and now it tastes like Fruit Loops* too!" 10:50 PM PT

*I wrote "Fruit Loops" but it's "Froot Loops." I'm still doubtful of the Mandela Effect, but it's fun conversational topic. Again, as of 20181024, it is Fr00t L00ps.

20180510:

Cold Water Black Pepper Porter

20180508:
Ada and I went to Cold Water Brewery & Grill today for lunch. While there I got a pint of their Anniversary brew called the Black Pepper Porter.

"The porter has a bit of a vanilla smell. It is light and at the end of each sip there is a subtle peppery taste. It's not strong, it's almost sweet, and it's hard (for me) to pinpoint. I guess there's the slightest sour flavor as well.

My focus on the beer is definitely on how the end of each sip finishes. The aftertaste is peppery." 1:31 PM PT

"The beer ends great. I give it a 4.3 out of 5 stars." 2:12 PM PT

Alibi Ale Works Porter

20180507:
Note - Received @ 3:02 PM PT:
It had a caramel smell. Ah, good first sip, but a watery aftertaste. Second sip: there is sufficient carbonation that I enjoy the taste and it was not as watery as the first sip.

Note #2 - Received 3:29 PM PT:
After nearly finishing my carnitas bowl from Azul Latin Kitchen, the taste of the porter was awesome.

Lucky Beaver Pale Ale

20180506:
After dinner, Ada and I stopped by Lucky Beaver Bar & Burger, because I wanted a drink and Ada wanted some more to eat.

Among the choices, I decided to have the 16 ounce pour of Lucky Beaver Pale Ale.

The beer had a refreshing orange taste. Perhaps, however, it was my imagination, because the flavor settled as a refreshing pale ale.

The beer tasted good. Actually, it tasted really good. I liked it more than Blue Moon Belgian White.

As I continued to sip the beer, I found it had a consistent taste. I'd give it 4.3 out of 5 stars. 12:15 AM PT

When I finished the beer, it tasted more like a pale ale and tasted less refreshing, but I was still satisfied. Overall, the beer was good and I decided my previous rating remained appropriate. 12:21 AM PT

In regards to the bar, Lucky Beaver - except for the cigarette smoke - seemed like a decent place for food and drink.
