Samuel Smith's Taddy Porter

20120630:
I split the beer with my dad and my friends, so we each had about a fifth of a bottle.

3 of the 5 cups poured.

I wrote: "Samuel Smith's Taddy Porter. Nice standard porter smell. Slight chocolate flavor. More carbonated than say a Guinness, which is a stout. Slightly above average." 20120701 12:42 PM PDT

The beer has top-notched ratings on both BeerAdvocate.com and RateBeer.com.

Jeremiah Weed Roadhouse Tea

20120622:
I believe I had this to drink on 20120622.* In any case, the drink simply tasted like alcoholic tea. Overall, it's a simple and easy-going drink, but it was not as tasty as Jeremiah Weed Lightning Lemonade. Similar to the Lightning Lemonade, it was hard for me to distinguish the alcohol flavor from the tea flavor.

I should consider mixing Roadhouse Tea and lemonade, mixing Roadhouse Tea and Lightning Lemonade, and comparing those two with Lightning Lemonade and Arizona Iced Tea.

*I remember I later opened up a new save file for New Super Mario Bros., so I can use my Nintendo Wii's history to confirm the day.

Red Stag and Coke

I wrote: "This Red Stag and Coke is strange. I can't pick up on any flavors other than a straight-up whiskey flavor. Well, perhaps there's a little cherry aftertaste. Overall, not worth it." 8:09 PM PDT

I'd probably enjoy the Red Stag better chilled and straight.

[20120628]

Over a year has passed, and I'd like to update this post by saying I usually enjoy a simple, but delicious rum and coke. For those looking for something a little different, I sometimes get a fuzzy navel, or some sort of variation on it.

The result is the distinctive taste of Jim Beam® complemented with hints of black cherry, honey tea, or cinnamon spice, a bourbon like nothing you've experienced before. Sometimes the uncharted path delivers the greatest rewards.

Red Stag by Jim Beam's smooth, well-rounded taste is delicious mixed or straight up.

RED STAG BLACK CHERRY
A hint of black cherry for a bourbon that's
anything but subtle.

TASTE: NOTES OF CORN AND MELLOW OAK ACCENTED BY A HINT OF BLACK CHERRY FOR SMOOTHNESS AND BALANCE

FINISH: SATINY WITH A TRUE BOURBON WARMTH.

One of the recipes on the Jim Bean website is "Red Stag & Cola":
Ingredients:
3 parts Red Stag by Jim Beam® Infused Bourbon
4 parts Cola

Mixing:
Pour Red Stag by Jim Beam® into 16 oz. glass half filled with ice. Fill glass with cola, stir lightly and serve.

Website Information:
About:
Pale gold in color, this ale is big, flavorful and complex. A special Belgian yeast strain adds tropical fruit and spice notes to the crisp dry ale, while Saaz hops add a subtle herbal note.

History:
Tripels originated in the Trappist brewing tradition of Belgium. The term “Tripel” refers to the amount of malt used versus the standard Trappist ’single’. Tripels are akin to the Belgian golden ales in that they are typically gold in color with a dense, creamy head. Their color belies the layers of flavor and complexity and the higher alcohol content of the beer itself. The taste runs from spicy to fruity and sweet from the alcohol.

Brewing:
Samuel Adams New World Tripel is brewed with our blend of Harrington, Metcalfe, and Copeland pale malts and malted wheat. We use Tettnang and Saaz hops in the kettle as well as a touch of brewing sugar. We also dry-hop the beer with Saaz during the aging process to give it a Samuel Adams signature.

At finishing we blend in a small amount of our Samuel Adams Kosmic Mother Funk, a beer with our own yeast creation, to add layers of flavor and character. The Kosmic Mother Funk is a Belgian ale that we age in oak casks and tanks for over six months. While in the oak vessels, the beer undergoes a secondary fermentation with brettanomyces and lacticobacillus yeasts to give the beer a rich tropical fruit note and some sourness.

The blended Samuel Adams New World Tripel is then traditionally bottle conditioned which creates a final fermentation in the bottle, giving the beer an extra smooth and balanced flavor.

Profile:
Flavor: Full bodied but very light and dry with layers of orchard fruit and a spicy character from the yeast.

Ballast Point Sculpin IPA

(20120607)

20120607:
I wrote: "Ballast Point Sculpin CA 7ABV 75IBU. It had a nice IPA smell. And great taste. Nicely hoppy. My burger tastes much better with it." 7:50 PM PDT

This beer has a very high rating on both RateBeer.com (100%ile overall, 100%ile IPA) and BeerAdvocate.com.

[20120627]

20151205:
After drinking a Pacifico and a Speakeasy Big Daddy IPA at the NextSpace happy hour, I had a Ballast Point Sculpin IPA and Mission Dark Seas (Russian Imperial Stout) over at Eureka!.

I thought the Ballast Point Sculpin IPA had a nice IPA smell. It has more of a taste than the Speakeasy Big Daddy IPA. There is, however, more of a bitterness coming from the Sculpin IPA.

(20151205)

On a related note, I originally wanted the Ballast Point Grapefruit Sculpin, but that keg had kicked and, without asking me, the bartender returned with the Sculpin IPA instead. While, given the choice, I would have chosen a different beer, I was also content with the Sculpin IPA. As such, I let the bartender leave without any commotion.

With that being said, consider the following:
I went into a shoe store and I said, "Can I get those in a ten?" The guy said "Sure," and he went in the back. Then a couple minutes later he came out and he goes, "I don't have a ten, I have a nine." [So I said,] "Great... 'cause while you were in the back, my toes were severed off." "Normally it would be retarded for you to say a number different than what we agreed on. But given my very recent accident you're right on." "Congratulations, you're rehired." - Demetri Martin
In any case, as happy hour was coming to an end, I ordered a Mission Dark Seas before finishing my Sculpin IPA. 6:47PM PT

As I was finishing off the Sculpin IPA and the Dark Seas, the strength of the Dark Seas was apparent. I also find the Dark Seas has more of a taste than the Sculpin IPA; I wonder why. 7:00 PM PT

Sculpin IPA

The Sculpin is a testament to our humble beginnings as Home Brew Mart. It showcases bright flavors and aromas of apricot, peach, mango & lemon. The lighter body also brings out the crispness of the hops.

This delicious Ballast Point Ale won a gold medal at the World Beer Cup 2010 in the International Pale Ale category. The Sculpin fish has poisonous spikes on it’s fins that can give a strong sting.

Ironically, the meat from a Sculpin is considered some of the tastiest. Something that has a sting but tastes great, sounds like a Ballast Point India Pale Ale.
