ABV: 6.5; IBU: 60; Availability: Year Round; Original Release Date: 03/2013

Sixty-One, our first new core beer since 2007, was born at the crossroads of serendipity, experimentation and brotherhood.

Whenever Dogfish Head President Sam Calagione and his neighborhood friends gather for drinks, they give each other a big ol' man-hug and order a round of 60 Minute IPA. A few years ago, Sam also ordered a glass of his favorite red wine and poured a little into each pint of 60 Minute. They all dug the combination of fruity complexity and pungent hoppiness, and the blend became a beloved tradition.

Sixty-One captures that tradition in a bottle and marries two Dogfish Head innovations: beer/wine hybrids -- which Dogfish has focused on for well over a decade with beers like Midas Touch and Raison D'être -- and continually-hopped IPAs.

The name Sixty-One is a reminder that this beer is Dogfish Head’s best-selling 60 Minute IPA plus one new ingredient: syrah grape must from California. The label, painted by Sam, is a twist on a typical watercolor. Rather than using water, Sam mixed the green pigment with beer and the red pigment with wine. And because Sixty-One pairs so well
with chocolate, he painted the browns on the label with melted chocolate.

Sixty-One will debut in March 2013. Four-packs will be available four times a year throughout Dogfish Head's 27-state distribution network.

Food Pairing Recommendations: Grilled pork tenderloin, sushi, fresh vegetables, summer berries and cream, apple pie, gruyere cheese, young gouda cheese
Glassware Recommendation: IPA glass

Sixpoint Sweet Action

20140214:
Today at Golden West Cafe I ordered a Sweet Action Cream Ale.

I wrote: "This Sweet Action Cream Ale by Sixpoint Brewery has the typical pale ale flavor. Solid." 7:01PM ET

Prior to coming to Golden West, I was at Union Craft Brewery and had a Union Craft Snow Pants.

20171006:
Today I cracked open a 12 oz. can of this beer which I got from Whole Foods. While I knew that I already had this beer prior to purchasing it, I decided to give it a second try.*

While there were some flavorful notes, the beer's bitterness was initially overpowering. Fortunately, the bitterness subsided as I reached the halfway point.

As the bitterness subsided, I sensed a more citrus flavor from the beer. In the end, I wasn't amazed by it, but it was enjoyable.

*Note, however, that according to the website the beer has changed.

Everything you’ve heard about this beer is true.

We’d love to tell you more, but this is no place for that story. Call 1-844-810-2412 to hear the details — it’s even juicier than the rumors.

The Story
If you traced from 2004, you’d see that SWEET ACTION is a representation of our palates at any given point in time… it’s a vibe more so than it was ever one distinct formulation. This version, a juicy, blonde wheat ale, is the latest iteration in that story.
The first brew was for a friend’s party. In three separate phone calls, she requested three different beers. First it was a wheat beer. Then it was a lager because her dad loved ‘em. Then she wanted a pale ale. So we put them all together and fermented it out with a Belgian yeast to 7.2% ABV. It was a super spicy brew with tons of biscuit malt, aromatic malts, and some bitter, dank American hops. This all took place in Madison, Wisconsin.

Then came the infamous photo shoot. A chance encounter in 2004 in Red Hook, BKLYN, led this beer to be served at a launch party for a short lived ladies porno magazine. The thing finally had a true namesake, after the magazine: SWEET ACTION.

That might leave you wondering, what exactly is SWEET ACTION? Well, sometimes knowing isn’t everything. Sink one… your palate just gets it.

Lab Notes
Huell Melon hops, an innovative strain first bred in 2014, have a unique melon-y aroma, while Canadian White Wheat smoothes out the body and gives the beer that hazy look

The original Sixpoint style - hard to define, but perhaps that's why people love it. Part pale ale, part wheat, part cream ale- all Sweet Action.

Union Craft Snow Pants

20140214:
This is my first time coming to Union Craft Brewery and for my first visit I ordered an Oatmeal Stout called Union Craft Snow Pants.

I wrote: "Union Craft Snow Pants. Oatmeal stout. It is dark black in color. I don't smell much. The taste is simple, but in this case, simple is good and it's a good tasting beer." 5:56PM ET
I also wrote: "Hmm. Okay, I don't know if I can explicitly taste the flavor of oatmeal, but the beer does taste good." 6:26PM ET

After we were done drinking at Union Craft Brewery, we headed on over to Golden West Cafe. There I ordered a glass of Sixpoint Sweet Action.

20150209:
This beer has a red, maybe orange-red color. It is transparent and, like yesterday's beer, has a nice head. In contrast to yesterday's beer (Sierra Nevada Golden IPA), it seems like it has a sweeter smell, possibly a more hoppy one, and tastes more grassy. The beer also ends with a more bitter, grassy aftertaste, but not one that lingers. Overall, it falls out of my tasting preferences in beer. 9:02PM MT

I would say that I like Before-After Triple Bock better than Utenos Utenos, the other Lithuanian beer I had tonight. Though to be fair, the two are not exactly comparable.

Penn Quarter Porter was our first in a line of draft and 22oz bomber limited-release beers, and it’s a robust porter! In the way that The Public™ is on the line between a pale ale and an IPA, this warming brew tiptoes the line between a porter and a stout – perfect for the cooler months in DC.

Available fall and winter in 12oz cans, draft and nitro.

TASTING NOTES
The roasted scent of baker’s chocolate and a hint of coffee offer a welcoming aroma to the dark depths of this robust porter as it tiptoes the line between porter and stout. Upon imbibing, chocolate and espresso notes engulf the tongue along with hints of ash and toasted brown sugar that linger toward the finish in creamy entanglement. Cocoa sweetness and slight burnt malt flavors play together throughout making this dark brew a year-round delicacy.

Frequently Asked Questions About PQP

Q: Can I age/cellar Penn Quarter Porter?
A: Despite the lower alcohol volume, we think the complex nature of PQP will allow it to age and develop into something even more special, if cellared properly. Put a bottle away for a year, and see for yourself!

Q: "Why do you call this a 'limited-release' when it seems to be available all year round?"
A: Penn Quarter Porter is brewed in much smaller, tightly-controlled batches than the other flagship beers. PQP production may also change at any time in order to accommodate other seasonal releases.

Q: What/Where is Penn Quarter?
A: Penn Quarter Porter is named for the Penn Quarter area of Washington, D.C., which most notably houses Ford's Theatre, where President Abraham Lincoln was shot. It also is home to numerous bars, restaurants, and museums.
