10 Barrel Apocalypse IPA

20170831:
I detected scents of orange, or perhaps just citrus.

The beer had a typical, yet pleasing hoppy taste. It was not overly bitter, and yet had a discernible taste that could be enjoyed.*

It had more taste than a pale ale and was a solid beer. 3:47PM PT

As the beer had more and more of a well-rounded taste as it warmed up - in particular the final sip had a more well-rounded taste. 4:43PM PT

*Sometimes a beer has a strong taste, but offset by a strong bitterness.

2) Apocolypse uses a combination of whole leaf and pellet hops that create a full well developed hop flavor.
3) Wondering where all that awesome flavor comes from? Each barrel of Apocalypse IPA is loaded with 4.8 pounds of eight different hop varieties. That's a ton of flavor!

Golden State Eureka! IPA

20170830:
The beer had an orange color, and a bitter taste, which reminded me of tangerines. 12:43PM PT

The taste upon completing the beer, after the primary bitterness was gone, was pleasant. 1:06PM PT

21st Amendment Down To Earth

20170807:
Straight out of the fridge, the first sip was perfect. I tasted some hops, there was a lot of flavor, and the beer had just the right amount of carbonation. There's some lingering bitterness. I was not sure if it would have stayed enjoyable. 7:49PM PT

Trader Joe's Providential Belgian-Style Golden Ale

20170806:
This beer was drinkable. However, I had a hard time determining the taste of it.

Initially I thought it didn't have a wheat taste, but I later thought that perhaps it had a light, wheat taste.

I went on to note that I didn't think the beer tasted flowery. 6:57PM PT

Providential Belgian-Style Golden Ale is unfiltered and lightly effervescent - more similar to fine sparkling wine than typical beer. Pale gold in color, it delivers aromatic notes of citrus peel and ginger that lead to a malty, mildly sweet, and hoppy flavor profile, and a finish that is positively palate-warming. With 7.5% alcohol, this is an ale to be sipped and savored, and will improve with age for about two years. An excellent "food beer", Providential shines alongside everything from curries to fruit pies to hearty soups. Each 750ml bottle (with a Champagne-style cork) is $5.99*, plus deposit where applicable, an excellent price for this unique brew.

A fermenting beer never slumbers. Consequently, there is always scattered activity tending our precious beers throughout the dark hours. In these late nights and wee hours that hallowed responsibility falls to the shoulders of the overnight Brew Crew. These brewing soloists brave the long nights, often alone, to do what needs to be done. Most areas of the brewery are dark or in shadows. Throughout the night the cellars resonate with the occasional knocking of expanding and contracting pipes. It can be a bit spooky to hear the brewery creak and groan as if possessed by a spirit randomly knocking about with a mallet. This IPA, liberally hopped with Loral™, honors our intrepid overnight team by naming it after their mischievous poltergeist companion – the Ghost Hammer.

Stone Ruination Double IPA 2.0

20170804:
The name Ruination seemed familiar to me and so I looked it up in my blog. It then occurred to me that I had already tried Stone Ruination IPA once before, but Stone had updated the beer and renamed it Ruination Double IPA 2.0.

(20170804)

In any case, the beer was deliciously hoppy. I was also surprised because I thought it tasted better than the Stone beer I had the other day, despite it being labeled as a double IPA.

In all fairness, I drank this one without having any food. 9:58PM CT

[20170807 Edit]

20171118:
This beer was not harsh. It had more flavor than the one(s)* I had yesterday, but with more residual bitterness. 4:42PM PT

(20171118)

*The note doesn't specify if I was comparing this beer to the Delicious IPA, the Hop Revolver IPA (Simcoe), or both.

Stone Ruination IPA was the first full-time brewed and bottled West Coast double IPA on the planet. As craft beer has evolved over the years, so too have techniques for maximizing hop flavors and aromas. For the second incarnation of our groundbreaking India pale ale, we employ dry hopping and hop bursting to squeeze every last drop of piney, citrusy, tropical essence from the hops that give this beer its incredible character. We’ve also updated the name to Stone Ruination Double IPA 2.0 to reflect the imperial-level intensity that’s evident in every sip. Join us in cheering this, the second stanza in our "Liquid Poem to the Glory of the Hop."

TASTING NOTES
APPEARANCE This beer pours clear gold with a cream-colored head.
AROMA The hop aromatics of this beer are massively fruity, with tons of melon, tropical fruit and citrus followed by resiny pine notes and a hint of dankness.
TASTE The balance shifts a bit more toward the taste of the hops, with tropical fruit being more dominant and hints of melon and citrus following closely behind. The pine notes are also intense, and the beer’s light malt character allows the bitterness to really stand out.
PALATE The beer is medium bodied with a dry, substantially citrusy, bitter finish.
OVERALL Modernizing a classic is never easy. This recipe is only partially new, in that we took an original concept and added new elements to keep Stone Ruination Double IPA 2.0 aligned with our tradition. We made an effort to maintain the roots of Stone Ruination IPA by keeping Centennial as a primary hop in the brewhouse and the dry-hop stage, and we added a substantial dose of Simcoe and Citra, along with a new hop variety, Azacca. The result is an intense mix of hop flavors: tropical fruit, citrus, pine, melon and a hint of resiny dankness.

Shock Top Ruby Fresh

20170803:
It tasted like grapefruit. It was a decent beer.

With that being said, I was drinking it and after I finished dinner I had some more. Unfortunately, and I suspect the bitterness of the raw spinach which lingered in my mouth, the beer now tasted unpleasant. 7:30PM CT

Shock Top Lemon Shandy

20130915:
I took a break from drinking a bottle of Elysian Night Owl Pumpkin Ale to have some summer brews (summer is almost over). The darker brew is Shiner Ruby Redbird and the lighter one is Shock Top Lemon Shandy. Both are delicious. Between the two, the Ruby Redbird tastes better and makes for a more refreshing summer brew. 12:19AM

[20131221 Edit][20190509 Edit]

20170801:
I had this beer from the bottle. It was drinkable, and had a light citrus flavor. There was no bitterness. It had a slight sugar aftertaste.

While it isn't my favorite summer beer, I still enjoyed it and consider it a good summer beer. 4:52PM CT

SHOCK TOP LEMON SHANDY
Our Lemon Shandy is a unique take on the classic Shandy that is distinctly Shock Top.

Brewed with two row and six row malted barley and five different types of hops, this Belgian-Style Wheat Ale is then combined with citrus peels, coriander, natural lemonade flavor and a hint of sugar for a subtle sweetness. The end result is an incredibly refreshing, crisp and smooth beer that hits the spot.
