Ommegang Hennepin

20130203:
Note that by now this beer is at least a year old.* However, at 7.7% ABV and bottle-conditioned, it has the potential to last at least a year and even age well. On the other hand, I didn't purposely try to age it, I just never had the opportunity to share it. I figured bringing it to the Super Bowl party would be a perfect time to share. Unfortunately, everybody was pretty much done with drinking by the time I opened it. Fortunately, I found that I could put the cork back into the bottle! Unfortunately, I still would have preferred sharing it.

Just in case it had an adverse affect on the flavor, I will mention that I already had three other beers by that point: Samuel Adams White Christmas, Samuel Adams Holiday Porter, and Ommegang Three Philosophers.

*On 20131226, I determined that I bought this beer as part of a gift pack some time during November 2011. The gift pack also included a bottle of Gnomegang, a bottle of Three Philosophers, and an Ommegang cup.

20130204:
This beer has a nice easy smell. I think the carbonation has gone down since opening the bottle yesterday, but it still has a nice and easy taste. It has a citrus taste. I would guess that I had too many drinks yesterday to correctly observe this beer.

20140111:
After sharing a Delirium Noël, I opened a bottle of Ommegang Hennepin and shared it.

Unfortunately, its notes (like various other events taking place in January 2014) are missing. While uneventful, at least I've had a experience with the beer.

BREWMASTER PHIL'S TASTING NOTES
This style is called Grisette, or farmhouse, and is considered to be in the domain of the Belgian Saisons. Hennepin is a delicious brew for all seasons. It is spicy and refreshing, and also has a high alcohol content to keep you warm throughout the winter months.

A moderately hoppy, farmhouse-style ale with a champagne-like effervescence, Hennepin has a crisp start followed by malt sweetness balanced with a firm bitterness. Hennepin has a bounty of great flavors: ginger, spice, orange and toasted grain. Pouring a bright golden color with a spicy-sweet balance of orange peel, sweet malt, hops and ginger, Hennepin makes way for a dry finish with a slight bite of ginger.

CHEF'S TASTING NOTES & RECIPES
As an accompaniment, it leans towards Asian culture, especially sushi. The ginger notes and the coriander pair sublimely with hamachi and salmon and a good dose of wasabi.

This picture more closely reflects the actual color of the beer. It also shows
the amount I poured down the drain. It's good, but it's also noon. (20130204)
